Kewo Engineering Corporation designs and reviews the electrical and civil systems behind substations, transmission, protection, battery storage and EV charging for Southern California's utilities, ports, transit agencies and cities. We are a certified small business in Diamond Bar, California.
Brian Kewo founded the firm in 2014 after working in substation design at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, where he managed and engineered projects from $20,000 to $79 million. We work directly for public agencies and as a subconsultant to the large engineering firms that lead their programs.
Founder and President. M.S. Electrical Engineering (Electric Power) and M.S. Financial Engineering, University of Southern California; B.S. Electrical Engineering, Cal Poly Pomona. Senior Member, IEEE Power and Energy Society.

From first study through commissioning, as prime or subconsultant.

Electrical and civil design from concept through issued-for-construction drawings and specifications.
Substations and switchyards, transmission and distribution lines, duct banks, protection and control, grounding, lighting and foundations, delivered at 30, 60, 90 and 100 percent. Supporting studies include grounding, photometrics, AC/DC load, short circuit, arc flash and protection coordination.
Example Receiving Station X, 230/34.5 kV, 320 MVA, for LAWA and LADWP

Owner's engineering, submittal review, construction monitoring and commissioning support.
We act as the agency's technical representative on design-build and EPC contracts: reviewing contractor submittals, tracking schedule and cost, monitoring construction, and closing out with commissioning and as-built drawings. Led by a PMP and Certified Construction Manager.
Example Glenarm BESS, Owner's engineer, 25 MW / 100 MWh, for Pasadena Water and Power

Technical specifications, bid documents and bid evaluation for major electrical equipment.
Mobile substations, battery storage, EV chargers, breakers and switchgear. We write the technical requirements, answer bidder questions, evaluate proposals, and check Buy America (BABA) compliance on federally funded work.
Example Mobile substation, Technical specification for Pasadena Water and Power

Training for utility staff on new systems, equipment and standards.
Classroom and field training on substation automation, protection systems and newly installed equipment, plus the manuals and standards that keep the knowledge in-house after the project ends.
Example Substation automation, Project controls and training support for LADWP

Independent review of design packages before they reach construction.
Third-party QA/QC of protection and control designs, drawings, cable schedules, material lists and calculations, checked against utility standards and the governing codes.
Example Center Substation, QA of 66 kV protection and control design for SCE
Recent work for utilities, transit agencies, ports and cities.
