Project Description

Pasadena Water and Power| Glenarm BESS Interconnection Study

Owner: Pasadena Water and Power (PWP)
Period: 2024

Overview

Overview

The objective of this project is to provide PWP with an interconnection study report for the installation of a 25MW BESS at 72 E Glenarm St, connecting to Power Delivery’s Glenarm Receiving Station D, in Bay 4.

Kewo Engineering was responsible for providing the following services:

  • Voltage Assessment
    • Analyzed voltage impacts under BESS charge and discharge scenarios and recommended mitigation for over/under-voltage conditions
  • Capacity Assessment
    • Evaluated equipment and line capacity overloads during BESS operations and analyzed impacts of future PWP sub-transmission line upgrades
  • Reliability Assessment
    • Assessed reliability impacts of integrating the BESS, including contingency analysis under N-1 conditions (loss of one sub-transmission line or transformer bank)
  • Short Circuit Duty Results
    • Analyzed fault duty impacts on PWP’s existing infrastructure and determined necessary operational changes
  • Reactive Power Deficiency Analysis
    • Determined VAR requirements for both the sub-transmission system and BESS
